How to Choose the Perfect Neon Sign for Your Wedding
Share
A custom neon sign is one of the few wedding decor pieces that works in every photo, lasts long after the day is over, and makes every guest ask where you got it. But there are a lot of choices to make before you order one, and the wrong decision can mean a sign that arrives too late, doesn't fit your venue, or clashes with the rest of your decor.
This is a practical guide, based on what we've learned from building hundreds of wedding signs. Follow these seven steps and you'll end up with a piece you'll want to hang in your home long after the honeymoon.
1. Decide where your sign will live on the wedding day
Before you pick the phrase, color, or size, decide the location. The venue spot determines everything else. The most popular placements:
- Behind the head table or sweetheart table. The sign becomes the backdrop for every candid shot during dinner.
- Over the dance floor. Great for upbeat phrases like "Let's Party" or "'Til Death Do Us Party" that come alive once the DJ starts.
- In the photo booth corner. A dedicated sign here means every photo-booth shot leaves with your branding.
- At the ceremony arch or altar. Works beautifully with "Mr & Mrs" or your names in cursive.
- At the welcome table or entryway. A simple "Welcome" or your last name greets every guest.
Once you know the location, you can judge what size and style will actually work.
2. Pick the phrase, names, or monogram
The most common wedding neon sign text ideas:
- Your first names ("Sarah & Jake")
- Your new last name ("The Smiths")
- Monograms (interlocking initials)
- A meaningful phrase ("Forever," "Better Together," "All You Need Is Love")
- A playful statement ("'Til Death Do Us Party," "Let's Get Hitched," "Mr & Mrs")
- The wedding date ("09.21.26")
Keep it short. Signs with more than 15 to 20 characters usually need to go wider than most venues can accommodate, and legibility suffers. If you want a longer quote, break it across two or three lines.
3. Choose a color that matches your wedding palette
Color is the fastest way to tie your neon sign into the rest of your decor. The most popular wedding neon colors:
- Warm white goes with every palette, feels romantic, photographs the best
- Soft pink for blush, boho, or spring weddings
- Deep red for winter, moody, or jewel-tone weddings
- Ice blue or lavender for pastel and garden weddings
- Gold or orange for autumn and rustic settings
If you're not sure, warm white is always a safe choice and looks stunning in low light during the reception.
4. Pick the right size for your venue
Size is where most couples get it wrong. A sign that looks big on screen can feel small once it's hung in a large ballroom, and vice versa. Rough guide:
- 50 cm wide (about 20 inches) works for intimate venues, a photo booth, or a welcome table
- 65 to 80 cm wide (about 26 to 31 inches) is the sweet spot for most reception backdrops
- 100 cm wide (about 40 inches) and up for large venues, barn weddings, or behind long head tables
If possible, measure the wall or backdrop space before you order. A sign that's too small on a big wall looks sad. One that's too big can dominate the frame.
5. Decide between indoor and outdoor
LED neon signs are rated for both indoor and outdoor use, but outdoor installations need extra planning. If your ceremony or reception is outdoors:
- Hang the sign under a tent, arch, awning, or covered area so the power connection isn't in direct rain
- Make sure your venue has an accessible power outlet within range of the sign (standard power cord is about 2 meters)
- For garden weddings, confirm the sign can be mounted on or suspended from your backdrop (ribbon, fishing line, or zip ties work great)
6. Order at least 4 to 6 weeks before your wedding date
Every custom neon sign is handcrafted to order. Typical production and shipping timelines:
- 5 to 7 business days to hand-bend your sign in the workshop
- 5 to 7 business days for express worldwide shipping (FedEx or DHL)
- Total: about 14 business days from order to door

7. Plan what happens after the wedding
The best thing about a wedding neon sign: it doesn't end when the party does. Our signs are built to last over 100,000 hours, which is more than 11 years of daily use. Think about where it will live in your home afterward:
- Above the bed in the master bedroom
- In a home bar or entertainment room
- Behind a nursery crib (yes, they're kid-safe, run on low-voltage DC power, and stay cool to the touch)
- In your office or creative studio
The right wedding sign becomes a decade-long keepsake of your day, not a one-day prop.
